Gilreu is a project anchored in the idea of contemporary living within spaces.
Open to the vibrant exterior, and, at the same time, peaceful with the ever-present sounds of the changing tides, this project shows us how a city-escape can feel like home. Intersecting nordic design and a mediterranean lifestyle, Gilreu lives surrounded by the sea and the charm of one of the most special areas of Porto – Foz.

When a project is an extension of our dreams, we then know we are in the right place. Gilreu is the destination, but it is also the point of departure to discover nature and the city. The architectural layout unveils three apartments that show a profound aesthetic awareness, inspired by the sea and designed to embrace you.

Shrouded in mystery and a compass to both sailors and residents, Gilreu is a millennial boulder that can be spotted from Foz’s walkways to the far out sea. Walking through Praia da Luz, Gilreu will be your vigilant companion. And from the project’s balconies, that now share the same name, an unmissable spectacle is renewed every day – the colours in the horizon each time the sun sets behind Gilreu.

Gilreu is situated in Rua da Senhora da Luz. As most buildings in this traditional road of Foz, it has been in the same family for generations. From great-grandfather to great-grandson, in 2020, the project was renewed while maintaining the original facade. The conversion to turistic apartments was developed while preserving the spirit of Foz, a full experience by the sea.

Gilreu has José Carlos Cruz’s signature. In an exercise of balance between the traditional lifestyle and a contemporary vision of the city, the renowned Architect gave each space its correct amplitude. The project preserved the original facade, facing Rua da Senhora da Luz, and renewed its other side, overlooking Praia da Luz. The green shutters unfold to let the sun in and remind us of melodic harmonicas that are played before cheerful songs.
